Soccer is the most popular spectator sport
in the world. Soccer is also known
as football or association football in many countries. It is a team sport where
2 teams, having 11 players each, participate in the game.
The
officially recommended adult field size of football varies from 50 to 100 yards
wide and 100 to 130 years long. However, the official field size dimensions,
proposed by FIFA, vary for handicapped players, women and for players who are
under the age of 16 or over the age of 35. In this post, I will focus on adult soccer field dimension.
Overall Dimension: The overall dimension of a typical soccer field is 60 yards wide and 100
yards long.
Centre Circle: The circle that you see at the middle
of a soccer field is a circle of 10
yards. All the defenders must be outside of this circle at the start of a
kick-off.
Midfield line: The midfield line of the field is equally divided in two
parts.
Penalty Box: The penalty box is the penalty area which is
shaped as a rectangular box. This
rectangular box consists of 18 yards length and 44 yards width. The penalty box
includes an arc which is 10 yards from the “Penalty Mark”. The referee may give a penalty kick if foul
is committed in this area.
Penalty Mark: Penalty mark is the area which is
located within the penalty box. It is a 12 yards area from the end line in the
penalty box. The penalty mark is the area where the penalty kicks are taken.
Goal Area: The goal area is a smaller portion
of the penalty mark and is shaped as a smaller rectangle which is centered on
the goal. The rectangular shape of the goal area is of 20 yards of width and 6
yards of depth. This goal area indicates the place from where a goal kick must
be placed.
Corner Kick: A small circle is made at each
corner of the soccer field. The
circle is of only 1 yard which is made to indicate where the ball must be
placed prior to the corner kick.
Goal: An adult soccer goal usually consists of 24 feet wide and 8 feet height.
